Good relationships

Sunday night I gave this message at the youth meeting at Macleod Salvation Army.

The night was captured on video and has been youtube-d, so I've put them below so you can watch the message yourself.

This is an important topic that isn't covered much, and needs to be. It hit some of the youth quite hard. Feel free to watch and pass on for your youth to see also.

[The video had to be broken into 3 parts for youtube acceptance (length of video)]

Don't young people need the wisdom of respected elders?

It seems that in churches there is a ghettoization tendency - young people in young people's groups overseen by slightly less young people. Older people tend to attend separate services for mainly older people or families.

Not saying there is no mixture, am saying that the church looks pretty much like the wider society in this regard.

Where is the model of better community with respect for elders and a thriving dynamic of cross-generational support?

Where does the world point to and say, oh so-and-so are showing us what real Christian community is all about?

Nowhere. That's where. Because Christianity doesn't work.

You seem to be quite oblivious to how things actually work. I'm assuming you watched some of the video and only the video - you didn't see what happened before or after, therefore ill informed of the bigger story.

I'm assuming that your assuming that there are no older people present nor an older 'pastor', there was both just for your information. As you have refused in the past - if you come along you'll see it's not all what you seem to have in your pre-conceived mind, or experienced from previous experience.

Just as people are not perfect, the church is not perfect either - imagine if it was! We can only do our best, just as I'm sure you do, and people will always point out other peoples short commings because it seems to divert the focus from themselves.

I am a part of many groups that show what real Christian community is, and also a few that don't - so Christianity does work where people stop being selfish and give up what their human nature desires and truly live out the values that God has requested of us.

Most people realise Christianity is an irrelevant failure. I have attended Salvos churches and observed this first hand. That, and the obseqious kow-towing to higher ranks (something that was sickenly obvious at Connections 2007)

david, wish you'd stop pretending to care about this stuff. i'm presuming you're the same hateful "david" that's commented on several other Christian and Salvation Army blogs. stop raising hell :) and get a life. if you don't believe this stuff then get on with it. personally, i think you're upset because deep down you think it might be true...

Are you the same anonymous that has written all that prose over the last few millennia? Apart from the stuff by Unattributed and Author Unknown.

The volume of your work is truly amazing.
